Australian cardinal; president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity; spent much of his career in the diplomatic service (India, Ireland, Portugal, United States, El Salvador, Argentina; Apostolic Pro-Nuncio to the Republic of China). ALS - Autograph Letter Signed, one page 1972, as Apostolic Pro-Nuncio to China. Accompanied by original mailing envelope in his hand. Charming letter entirely in the hand of the Cardinal, reads: A letter from you has been forwarded to me here in Australia, where I am spending some leave. You will find my coat-of-arms and motto at the top of this letter and my signature below. I regret veery much the long delay in answering your request, the result of my being away for quite some time from my residence in Taipei. Wishing you Go's blessing in abundance... It is not common to acquire a letter from a prelate of this stature, entirely in his own hand. A lovely example.
