TLS - Typewritten Letter Signed, one-half sheet, 31 May 1964, to Henri Daniel-Rops (1901-65). Superb content! Reads: I thank you for your last two messages. For the first, which is very joyful, I want to thank you, since it is to you that I owe this Prize, for which I now await without doubt an official notification. For the other, unfortunately, I cannot give you a response as favorable as you and I would have wished. For three years, the council has absorbed the little serious leisure that I could have had. I am several years late for two very large works for which I am engaged by contract with publishers: and I have besides that, so many minor, but still heavy obligations... I cannot therefore consider undertaking anything on one of the great ecumenical workers. I regret it, but from a sterile and hopeless withdrawal. In renewing to you the expression of my thanks, I ask you to accept that of my most cordial feelings united and devoted in the service of the Gospel.
Accompanied by a carbon copy (lightweight green tissue) of a May 15, 1964 letter from Daniel-Rops to Father Congar. Excellent content.
