American cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. Retired Archbishop of Galveston-Houston. He previously served as Coadjutor and later Bishop of Sioux City from 1997 to 2004.
In 2013 DiNardo was elected vice president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and in November 2016, elected its president. He was elevated to the College of Cardinals by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007. diNardo is the first cardinal from a diocese in the Southern United States.
NOTA BENE: According to one European dealer who has met the retired cardinal while at consistory in Rome, Cardinal DiNardo rarely responds to letter requests for his autograph. He also has expressed concerns over forgeries and, consequently, prefers to sign in person. This color photograph was signed in-person by DiNardo on 11 October 2009 at the 13th Annual Bishop's Dinner for Catholic Education (Sioux City, IO) at which DiNardo was the keynote speaker on Excellence in Education.
