ALS - Autograph Letter Signed, three panels of folded sheet. Writing from Lavington, 30 June 1848.  Intriguing letter, reads:  Dearest Friend, Do not upbraid me. Do not think I do not love you: or that anything you can say can make me more sorry that I was not with you yesterday. I thought I decided rightly, but when the moment was past - I began to chide myself & hence done so ever since. Therefore, do not say a word to increase it. Perhaps when we talk I may better ... you. I will only say that long illnesses & inaction have made such days as yesterday very trying to me. And I have not yet got over my six weeks of travelling. If it please God, I hope to be better and stronger soon & ... to think of health...myself.  Do not upbraid me for I am more grieved than you could be. I I wish I was worthy of half the love you have wasted on me for which may God reward you. Ever yours in & for Him...

Manning authored several works, among which are: The Unity of the Church; The Grounds of Faith; The Temporal Mission of the Holy Ghost; The Eternal Priesthood.
