DS - Document Signed, one page (measure 16"x5.5" dated 15 June 1819, signed on behalf of Pius VII by Cardinal Ercole Consalvi (1757-1824). Addressed to the faithful of the diocese of Turin with respect to the forthcoming Feast of St. Teresa and granting "grace and favor" to the faithful. Accomplished in a handsome calligraphic hand.

 

ERCOLE CONSALVI served twice as Cardinal Secretary of State for the Papal States and who played a crucial role in the post-Napoleonic reassertion of the legitimist principle of the divine right of kings, of which he was a constant supporter. It was Consalvi who negotiated the Concordat between Napoleon and the Papal States in 1801.
