French cardinal and statesman; chief minister to Louis XV. Grand almoner to Maria Theresa, wife of Louis XIV.  Bishop of Fréjus. Created a cardinal by Benedict XIII in 1726. Member of the Académie francaise, of the Academy of Science, and Academy of Inscriptions.

 

LS - Letters Signed, set of two between 1735 and 1742. Written to Claude-Francois-Marie Rigoley (1756-1790) French nobleman, military officer, patron of the arts, Freemason, and founder of the Concert de la Loge Olympique. The other letter was written to an abbot.  Nice examples in very good to fine condition. Accompanied by a late 19th century steel engraving of deFleury.
